Democrats alerted the FBI about a decades-old sexual misconduct allegation against President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, The New York Daily News reports.
The news comes ahead of Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote.
The letter, obtained by Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), is reportedly related to possible sexual misconduct between Kavanaugh and an unidentified female when both were in high school.
The nature of the allegations is unclear.
Kavanaugh, 53, graduated from the all-boys Jesuit high school Georgetown Prep in Maryland.
Feinstein informed Democrats on the committee about the letter Wednesday. Several members advised her to alert the FBI.
According to The Daily News, Feinstein got the letter from Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA).
Feinstein said in a statement that the information came from a person who “strongly requested confidentiality.”
