Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) described Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford as an “attractive” witness after her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.
After hearing Ford’s heartbreaking testimony, Hatch said that it was “too early to say” if he found her convincing.
“I don’t think she’s uncredible. I think she’s attractive, a good witness,” Hatch told reporters.
Asked what he meant by “attractive,” Hatch replied, “In other words, she’s pleasing.”
Hatch spokesman Matt Whitlock later tried to clean up the Senator’s comment on Twitter.
“Hatch uses ‘attractive’ to describe personalities, not appearances,” he wrote. “If you search his past quotes you’ll see he’s used it consistently for years for men and women he believed has compelling personalities.”
