
According to the Washington Post, under Trump the US State Department, the US has developed a newly aggressive attitude towards Canada over a tiny island that’s off the coast of Maine.
Machias Seal Island is 20-acre island 10 miles off the coast of Maine, whose only inhabitants are the few Canadians that run the lighthouse on the island. The island doesn’t even have trees.
However, that hasn’t stopped US boat patrols from detaining Canadian fishing boats in the area. That area is generally a place where both American and Canadian fishing boats come to work. This is the first time in history there has ever been any contention over this area.
Capt. Andrew Patterson insists there was an incident at the last G-7 summit where Trump was rude to the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. While it’s clear Trudeau definitely doesn’t like Trump, that might actually be the source of the tension.
