A Minnesota couple was arrested after they beat a black man and tried to run him over with a truck, KNSI reports.
Police say the black man went to Aaron Stevens’ home to pick up a fan.
The man says Stevens came out of the home and demanded he get off the property and began shouting “ni**er” and other racial slurs.
Police say the 58-year-old Stevens broke a beer bottle and threw it at the victim, cutting him near his mouth.
Stevens then charged the man with a large tie strap with metal hooks, police said.
The man said he grabbed a hammer to try to defend himself but was hit in the face with the hooks.
According to police, Stevens then held the man down on the ground and called for his girlfriend, 41-year-old Myrna Alanis, to run the man over.
Witnesses told police that Alanis backed the truck up and revved the engine while the man was pinned down.
Police said Stevens then chased after the victim with an ax.
Stevens admitted to the assault, racial slurs, and holding him down as the truck approached his head.
Police said Stevens admitted he’s prejudiced and used the n-word to describe black people.
Stevens was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and booked on $300,000 bond.
Alanis was charged with assault and is being held on $100,000 bond.
