An 8-year-old Indiana boy, Curtis Gilbert Collman III, is dead after overdosing on methamphetamine after eating it as a breakfast cereal. The boy’s father, Curtis Gilbert Collman, 41, was arrested and charged with the death of his son.
The elder Collman reportedly noticed that his son seemed ill around 10am, and called in a family friend to look at the boy. Reportedly, when the woman suggested calling 911, Collman ripped the phone out of her hands and told her he wasn’t about to go back to prison. He then grabbed a gun, threatening to shoot himself, the boy, and the neighbor.
Collman then grabbed the boy and took him to his parent’s house, fleeing after they too, wanted to call 911. His parents were able to call the police for help. By that point, it was too late, the 8-year-old boy had died without receiving life-saving treatment.
Huffington Post reports:
‘Collman on Thursday evening and charged him with failure to register as a sex offender, which stemmed from a 2006 conviction on a Class D felony of sexual misconduct with a minor, the Tribune reported.
Collman has since been charged with neglect of a dependent causing death, pointing a firearm and theft.’
Collman is fighting to be released from prison to spend time with her parents before being sent to jail, although prosecutors plan to fight this and keep him behind bars.
