Special Counsel Robert Mueller has obtained a nine-slide presentation prepared by an Israel-based intelligence firm that outlines how social-media manipulation helped Donald Trump’s 2016 election, The Wall Street Journal reports.
It is not clear who got the presentation and whether it is more of a hypothetical pitch or based on analysis of specific activity during the campaign.
Mueller’s investigators are reportedly looking into one of PSY Group’s founders Joel Zamel, who is believed to have met with Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower in the weeks before the election in November 2016.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that Zamel met with Trump’s son and an emissary to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to talk about how PSY Group could help Trump beat Hillary Clinton.
The slideshow outlines how fake news sites and “bots” energized Trump’s voters. In one of the slides, entitled “Trump Campaign Components,” there is a timeline to establish “fake news sites/avatars/content” in the first few months of 2016.
A person with knowledge about the Trump campaign’s operations said it has “absolutely no knowledge of what this firm was referring to” in the presentation.
