A young Malian migrant man was awarded French citizenship and offered a job after he rescued a child dangling from a balcony in Paris, CNN reports.
Video showed 22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama climbing four of an apartment building in seconds to save the child.
By the time first responders arrived, the child was already pulled to safety.
French President Emmanuel Macron invited Gassama to Elysee Palace Monday and awarded him with French citizenship and a gold medal.
“I didn’t think about it, I climbed up and God helped me,” Gassama told the president.
CNN reports he was also offered a job as a Paris firefighter.
“Mamoudou shares the values of the Paris fire brigade. We are ready to welcome him,” the Paris fire brigade tweeted.
According to law enforcement, the father’s child was out shopping when the incident occurred and is under investigation for abandoning his responsibilities.
