The United States and Israel found few friends in the United Nations to support President Donald Trump’s dubious decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The United Nations overwhelmingly voted to condemn the Trump’s decision by a vote of 128-9, with 35 countries abstaining.
Outside of the United States and Israel, the only nations to vote against the resolution were Guatemala, Honduras, the Mashall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, and Togo.
American allies like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan voted in favor of the resolution to condemn Trump’s decision.
Other allies like Canada, Mexico, and Australia abstained.

The move came after UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and President Trump threatened to “take names” of countries that voted for the resolution. That list will be very long.
“The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out in this assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation,” Haley said before the vote. “We will remember it when, once again, we are called up to make the world’s largest contribution to the U.N., and we will remember it when many countries come calling on us to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit.”

Haley also sent a letter to members of the UN warning that Trump instructed her to record the names of the countries that backed the resolution.
“They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us,” Trump said Wednesday. “Well, we’re watching those votes. Let them vote against us, we’ll save a lot. We don’t care.”
The Palestinians have said that the United States can no longer take part in any peace negotiations because they’ve shown an explicit bias favoring Israel.
