A Canadian judge made shocking comments about a teenage girl who was sexually assaulted by a cab driver, suggesting she was “flattered” by the assault, Vice reports.
Carlo Figaro, a 49-year-old taxi driver, was convicted of forcibly kissing a 17-year-old girl and groping her breasts and genitals.
During the trial, Quebec Judge Jean-Paul Braun called the forced kiss an “acceptable gesture.”
“It can be said that she is a little overweight, but she has a pretty face, huh?” Braun said.
The judge also suggested the teen may have been “flattered” by the attack because the cab driver was good looking and “likes to wear cologne.”
“He looks good and doesn’t seem his age,” the judge said, according to CBC. “We can see from his testimony … that he has nice manners and that he likes to wear cologne: with Versace when he goes out, and with other less-expensive colognes during the week.”
The judge discussed the victim’s “figure,” “which is quite voluptuous; the court specifies that she is a pretty young girl.”
Quebec Justice Minister Stephanie Vallee told reporters she will file an official complaint against Braun, calling his comments “unacceptable.”
