A new poll found approximately 1 in 8 Trump voters aren’t sure they’d vote for him again considering his first 6 months as president, Reuters reports.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll of 2016 voters found most Trump voters said they’d support him again, but considering the thin margins his victory depended on, losing 1 in 8 voters might be too much to overcome for him in 2020.
The July survey found 12% of those polled said they would not vote for Trump “if the 2016 presidential election were held today,” 7% said they “don’t know” what they would do, and 5% would vote for a different candidate, or not at all.
88% said they would vote for Trump again, up from 82% in May. The polls show Trump has improved slightly within his base since May, even through legislative failures and the ongoing Russian scandal.
“If I had to walk around wearing a T-shirt saying who I voted for, I may have voted differently,” said Beverly Guy, 34, a Trump voter who took the poll in July
