Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro rushed to the defense of Donald Trump Jr. on Sunday, saying that she too would meet with questionable people to score useful information on an opponent.
“As someone who’s run for office five times, if the Devil called me and said he wanted to set up a meeting to give me opposition research on my opponent, I’d be on the first trolley to Hell to get it,” Pirro said Sunday on “Justice with Judge Jeanine.”
“And any politician who tells you otherwise is a bald-faced liar.”
Pirro also disagreed with claims that Trump Jr. had broken the law by meeting with the Russians.
“There is no law that says a campaign cannot accept information from a foreign government,” Pirro said.
Trump Jr.’s meeting took place at Trump Tower in June 2016 and involved President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
Trump Jr. released emails between him and music publicist Rob Goldstone last week, who originally introduced him to the Russians.
“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” Goldstone wrote.
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jr. replied. He later forwarded the full email chain to Kushner and Manafort.
