The Trump administration appears to always be in a state of total confusion.
Almost every week, there are new stories about how President Donald Trump leaves one of his advisers in the dark on a major issue, or how Trump himself throws a curveball by tweeting something contradictory to the stance of his administration.
Jay Sekulow, Trump’s attorney, said on Sunday that the president is not under investigation, just days after Trump said on Friday that he was under investigation.
“Let me be clear here,” said Jay Sekulow, a member of the president’s legal team, on NBC’s Meet The Press. “The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction.”
“I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt,” Trump said two days prior.
Sekulow clarified what Trump meant, saying that he was responding to a news report about a theoretical investigation.
“The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking information to the Washington Post,” he said.
As for the tweets, Sekulow said they are an important part of the Trump administration and that Trump sees them as a valuable way to communicate directly with his voters.
“He’s responding to what he’s seeing in the media in a way in which he thinks is appropriate to talk to those people that put him in office.”
“He’s not afraid of the investigation — there is no investigation,” Sekulow said, adding, “there is not an investigation of the President of the United States, period.”
