During Tuesday’s press briefing, Sean Spicer apparently forgot the whole Holocaust happened when he suggested that Syria’s Bashar al-Assad is more despicable than Hitler because Hitler “didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons…”
Then, during the same briefing, Spicer just made it worse, when in lieu of a straightforward mea culpa, the press secretary decided instead to he “understood” that Hitler sent his own people to “Holocaust centers,” making Nazi death camps sound like some slightly evil holiday camp instead of a place of mass killing, primarily by gassing.

Well, it turns out even after Spicer left the podium, he just couldn’t stop stepping in it.
First, he sent out this statement declaring “In no way was I trying to lessen the horrendous nature of the Holocaust” and instead of stopping there added an additional boneheaded statement:
Then, unable to let it go, he sent another statement and added a line:
The two sentence version leaves it unclear why Assad using airplanes to gas people is worse than Hitler using gas chambers to kill millions.
The three sentence version just adds a line saying suggesting killing people is bad but does little to make things better.
Trump’s comments also did not seem to work. After the statement was made, both Nancy Pelosi and the Anne Frank Center have called for Spicer to be fired.
Social media has also roundly panned Spicer for his remarks.
