New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has hired a prosecutor who worked under fired U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara to work on public corruption cases, including those that involve the Trump administration.
The attorney, Howard Master, was hired in a move that many believe shows that Schneiderman is looking to investigate the Trump administration.
While Master worked at the Department of Justice, he worked on many high-profile cases, including the prosecution of New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
Schneiderman’s spokesman, Eric Soufer, confirmed the story to the Wall Street Journal.
“[He] will be working on a wide range of civil and criminal investigations and enforcement matters, including public corruption, complex civil litigation,” Soufer said.
Schneiderman is no fan of Trump. In 2013, he launched a fraud lawsuit against the billionaire over Trump University.
In addition, Schneiderman joined the lawsuit launched by Washington state into Trump’s second immigration ban.
“The Trump administration’s continued intent to discriminate against Muslims is clear, and it undermines New York’s families, institutions and economy,” Schneiderman said last week.
