President-elect Donald Trump has managed to escape yet another libel suit.
How did he accomplish it this time? His lawyer used the Twitter defense. In Trump’s defense, he suggested that many of his potentially libelous tweets were nothing but opinion and that Twitter is a “hyperbolic” social media network.
Remember that time when Trump talked about tightening up the libel laws? Now, that same man is saying that his tweets shouldn’t be taken seriously.
The libel suit was filed by political strategist Cheryl Jacobus after he called her a “major loser” with “zero credibility” and suggested that she begged him for a job.
Trump responded with the following deleted tweet:
Jacobus even published messages she received from Trump’s campaign, showing that she was approached by them.
Oh well, we now have the Twitter defense for cases like these.
