Charles M. Blow talks about Trumps attempts at minority outreach on New Day https://t.co/zBdtP3U3sB— Andrew Troast (@andrewjtroast) August 24, 2016
Charles Blow, fresh off dismissing a Trump spokesman, took a sledgehammer to Trump’s pitch to black voters on CNN, Raw Story reports.
At his rally in Austin, TX Tuesday night, Trump said that when he’s president, black people will be able to walk down the street, and “(not)…get shot.”
Blow can see through this patronizing, dog whistling rhetoric:
“First off, we have to stop calling this an outreach to black people,” Blow said. “It’s an outreach to white people.”
Blow called Trump’s “What the hell have you got to lose?” approach to black voters, “the most insidious kind of bigotry.”
“It’s the kind of bigotry that says, ‘I will knock you down while I pretend to pick you up,’” said Blow. “It’s the kind of bigotry that says, ‘I am urinating on you and telling you to dance in the rain.”
Blow said he looked high and low to find any black people who take Trump’s rhetoric seriously:
“Not a single person that I could find is taking it seriously,” he said. “The only people taking this seriously is white people.”
“This is an insult to all people of color — black, Hispanic and otherwise,” he concluded, “because he is using us as pawns” to make himself look less racist and “get to” white voters who have been reluctant to support him.
