A group of Ohio teens used the popular ALS Ice Bucket challenge to trick an autistic boy into a vile and mean-spirited prank.
The mom of the 14-year-old said that after her teen stripped down to his underwear to join in what he thought was fun, they dumped urine, feces, cigarette butts and other vile things on his head.
“Once we found out about it, we were just horrified,” said the mom, identified as Diane by FOX 8.
She also said that her son had no idea what the teens had planned.
“He was embarrassed because he did not know what the contents were until afterwards and then he didn’t want anybody to know,” said his mom. “They used his phone to tape it and they put it up on Instagram.”
The boy’s brother said that he was shocked when he found out about what the teens did because it was just so mean.
“I mean, the first thing that popped into my mind was like, why could someone – how could someone do this?” the brother said. “How could someone really be this cruel to someone?”
When the family showed the video to police, they said that the incident was not mere child play and may actually be a crime.
“It’s disturbing to watch, you can obviously tell that somebody has been taking advantage of there,” said Det. Kevin Krolkosky of the Bay Village police.“Obviously, if possible, we do want to hold those individuals accountable for their actions.”
The boy’s school also plans to look into the incident, which happened off school grounds and in front of a private home.
His mom, Diane, said she wants the video shared to let teens and others know that treating anyone like this is not okay.
“The bucket challenge is supposed to be raising awareness for this disease and now they’ve turned it into a sick joke,” she said. “I just can’t understand why kids would do something this cruel.”
