A Florida woman has been arrested after murdering her lesbian lover’s two-year-old daughter and attempting to kill her 10-year-old son.
According to police, 40-year-old mental health counselor Kymberley Lucas drowned fellow counselor Jacquelyn Jamason’s 2-year-old daughter and attempted to kill her 10-year-old son by giving him pills. She reportedly attempted to commit suicide afterwards and both she and the boy were taken to a hospital.
Police were called to her home on Monday where they found the baby girl unresponsive after being drowned in the bathtub. Police say the woman snapped after Jamason broke up with her.
Police say she first tried to give the 2-year-old pills but the girl refused to drink them. She drugged both herself and the boy. The boy woke up, however, to find Lucas unconscious on the bedroom floor. He went to look for his sister. He pried the locked bathroom door open and grabbed his sister out of the water and tried to perform CPR.
The boy tried to save the girl and was the one who called 911. Police Chief Frank Kitzerow called him “the bravest person I ever met.”
In a Facebook post just last week, Lucas put up a photo of her and the two kids with a message saying “those two precious souls are my life!”
Lucas has been arrested and is charged with murder and attempted murder. She remains in the hospital under police custody.
The extent of the boy’s health and what pills he was given is unclear but officials say he is expected to survive.
