For businesses and organizations in the age of the internet, it’s all about going viral and getting social media talking about you. So, when the New York Police Department took to Twitter yesterday, they were hoping their hashtag “#myNYPD” would go viral. In two hours it was trending nationwide, but it wasn’t the way they wanted.

Almost immediately, the tweets using the hashtag were not nice pictures like the one above, but instead scenes of police brutality.

While many simply tweeted the pictures and the hashtag, other users juxtaposed the brutal images with faux heartwarming captions.
