James O’Keefe, conservative content manufacturer, was caught trying to bribe people to riot at Trump’s inauguration to fit a narrative that liberals pay protesters, Huffington Post reports.
O’Keefe is known for video sting operations in which he tries to undermine liberals and social organizations like ACORN or Planned Parenthood.
The Undercurrent and Americans Take Action, a left-wing political group, released video in which they performed a sting on an O’Keefe ally Allison Maass, who had tried to obtain evidence of voter fraud prior to the 2016 election through infiltration and subterfuge. O’Keefe’s videos are done as part of Project Veritas.
Maass reached out to Ryan Clayton of Undercurrent offering financial assistance, claiming to represent progressive donors who want to help activists protest the inauguration. In secret video, Maass and Clayton have the following exchange:
“What you’re asking for, let’s bullet point it,” Clayton says. “He says, I’ll give you $100,000 to shut down a bridge, incite a riot and make sure we hack the media narrative on the inauguration.”
Maass says he has it right. “You said you could do stuff like that. He says he likes it. Would you actually do it?”
Undercurrent executive producer Lauren Windsor looked into Project Veritas after the voter fraud work it did that smeared their organization. She found a front group called Breakthrough Dev Group, that O’Keefe was using to set up stings. BDG then got in touch through Maass.
“It was my pleasure to work with the highly skilled operatives who pulled off this reverse sting of political conman James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas cohorts,” Clayton said.
